Commissioners lift fire ban

by Larry Patrick

WALSENBURG- On the advice of the state and the fire chief, the stage one fire ban has been lifted by the Huerfano County Commissioners. However, the Commissioners warned residents to be cautious when burning and work to clear space around buildings to prevent future problems.

The Commissioners have decided to take action on groups that forget to lock the Community Center. Administrator, John Galusha reported that two groups using the Community Center recently- forgot to lock the doors. Galusha says there is too much to lose in equipment and supplies. He suggested that anyone using the facility for group events forfeit the damage deposit if they forget to lock the facility. Damage deposits are normally $250.

The grand opening of the waste transfer station will be held on June 3rd, 4th and 6th. The facility is now open.
