COMMISSIONERS HONOR WW II / KOREAN ERA VETERANS — On Tuesday the Huerfano County Commissioners paid a visit to Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center to honor veteran residents of the facility. From left, Commissioner Max Vezzani honored former US Army Air Corps Technical Sargeant Joseph Grubelnik by proclaiming July 2, 2016 a day in his honor for service in the India, Burma and China Theater of Operations. National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his time in the service. Center, Commissioner Ray Garcia presents the county’s proclamation naming July 15, 2016 as Leo Diaz Day in Huerfano County. Diaz, a US Navy veteran served his country in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a Seaman 3rd Class and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific 4 Star Medal and the American Area Victory Ribbon. Right, Commissioner Ray Garcia presents a proclamation denoting July 16, 2016 as Louis Galvez Day in Huerfano County for his service in the US Army as a Military Police Sargeant. Galvez, a former Huerfano County Assessor, earned the American Service Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his time in the army. Also honored June 21, but not pictured were William Ransdall, US Navy Radioman 3rd Class. July 1, 2016 will be celebrated as his day in Huerfano County. Ransdall received the Victory Medal for his time in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Orlando Garcia Day will be July 8, 2016 in Huerfano County honoring his service as a Private 1st Class in the US Army. Edward Kern will be honored with his special day July 9, 2016 for his service as an Airman 1st Class who was stationed in Korea and received the Good Conduct Medal. Photos by Eric Mullens
