Commissioners discuss Presco

by Larry Patrick

WALSENBURG- The commissioners of Huerfano County discussed the on-going application by Presco for oil and gas drilling in the county.  The commissioners had asked county administrator John Galusha to write a letter requesting a moratorium on the application.  Galusha stated that the law firm of Goldman, Robbins & Nicholson P.C. should write the letter, because they have more expertise in this matter.  The commissioners agreed. Commissioner Scott King, says the county wants to make sure they have their t’s crossed and i’s dotted in expressing their concerns about health and safety matters with the Presco application. Otherwise the commissioners say they are not against industry.  King says the COGCC that oversees applications for oil and gas drilling in the state has set rules on how protests or questions can be handled. Doing it right the first time means getting the county’s concerns heard.

The commissioners recognized two wrestlers in the recently held state-wide wrestling tournament for those in grades 6-8.  Adam Ortivez was recognized for his second place finish in the 95 pound category for state and Andre Ortiz won the 145 lb. category over 66 other wrestlers.

In other action, the commissioners approved a quote for cattle guards in the amount of $7,805.
