Commissioners discuss Celtic Music Festival

by Larry Patrick

WALSENBURG- Coal mining is going to be the theme for this years Celtic Festival planned for September. This according to Barbara Yule at the Huerfano County Commissioners meeting. She said the history of coal mining in Huerfano County and Scotland go way back and should be observed. She would like to see September be declared Coal Mining Heritage Month.

Mrs. Yule is hoping for a 24% increase over the approximately 1300 people that attended last years event in the county.

The Commissioners approved a court security grant contract which will allow the hiring of a deputy sheriff for around $30,000. This grant has to be sought each year but administrator, John Galusha saw little problem in doing so.

The Commissioners also named various people to several county boards.
