WALSENBURG- Spanish Peaks Wind Energy received a 3 year permit application to put up wind energy farms in Huerfano County. The Planning and Zoning committee made the recommendation to the Huerfano County Commissioners at their meeting yesterday.
The commissioners received 5 applications for 3 seats on the Board of Adjustment. The named Robert Northup of La Veta to a one year term, Jeri Ann Vigil of Walsenburg to a 2 year term and Louis Edmundson for a 3 year term.
It was noted in a report from the state that Huerfano County has received grants amounting to 5.4 million dollars over the past 4 year period in local government energy mineral impact awards. The grants have been used for numerous projects like the Cucharas sewer study and wastewater improvements, various Huerfano County road projects, the fairgrounds in La Veta, county equipment replacement, the Huerfano County clinic and hospital district and the La Veta library expansion along with the Spanish Peaks Library district studies and learning center development.
There have been two candidates for the County Attorney position. A date was to be set up for later this month for interviews.
Information is being reviewed as the state legislature continues working on new regulations to monitor oil and gas drilling operations in the state. The new regulations are expected to be in place by July
