Commissioner King suffers heart attack

HUERFANO– Commissioner Scott King suffered a heart attack last Wednesday, Dec. 31, while finishing out his weekly commissioner’s meeting.

“I started having chest pains, and everybody looked at me and said, get your butt to the hospital,” King later recalled.

“I can’t say enough great things about our hospital and ambulance crews,” King went on to say. “They got me stabilized and up to the coronary unit in Pueblo in a 25 minute ambulance ride.”

King had two stents put into the arteries on the right side of his heart, to relieve the 90 percent blockage he had there.  The amount of damage done to King’s heart is still unknown at this time. “The doctors say within a month, I should be feeling better than I have in years,” he said.

“It all seemed pretty surreal,” he continued. “I felt like I was invincible, but this was a pretty good wake-up call.”  King spent some time at home recuperating, but felt well enough to show up for the Wednesday commissioners meeting.
