College classes in Walsenburg

by Larry Patrick

Four representatives of the University of Phoenix were in Walsenburg last week to discuss offerings of some classes for those living in Walsenburg and Huerfano County.  Known more for their on-line classes, the Univ. of Phoenix offers a wide diversity of classes and degrees.  They have 450,000 people who take courses from their programs.

Discussion was held on whether some general college classes could be offered in a classroom setting in Walsenburg.  The representatives said if there were 20 people willing to sign up for a class, they could provide an instructor to come to Walsenburg.

They would like to meet with local city, county, school and other interested officials about what they can offer our community and see if a plan can be formulated.  Several adults expressed interest at the meeting and a future meeting with local officials will be set up to discuss ideas.
