Work involves answering emergency (911) and other calls, dispatching numerous local law enforcement and fire/emergency medical agencies, giving and receiving information, providing life-saving emergency medical instructions, and entering information into the computer. Candidates must have strong multi-tasking skills, monitor more than one dispatch radio at a time, and the ability to handle stressful calls and. Testing includes, but is not limited to, a computerized skills assessment, interview, and mandatory observation of the 911 Center. This position requires shift work, including weekends and holidays. Entry level positions begin at $3,639.00 per month with benefits.
Detention Specialist
Work involves operating controls to allow entry and exit from secured areas of the detention facility, operating electronic recording equipment, registering offender visits, and providing service to the general public. Testing includes, but is not limited to, an interview and resume presentation. This position requires shift work, including weekends and holidays. Entry level positions begin at $3,308.00 per month with benefits. Candidates for all positions must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license. The expected duration of the testing process will not normally exceed four months. Eligibility lists will be created based on the testing results. Once the lists are certified, they will be in place for one year unless extended or revoked by the Sheriff. Prior to employment, candidates will complete a background investigation, polygraph examination, physical examination, and drug screen. A psychological evaluation will be required for Deputy Sheriff Patrol, Detention Deputy, and Communications Officer positions. Candidates not selected may reapply in the future.
