HUERFANO- The fifth annual Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival kicks off this week with an absolutely tremendous lineup of talent.
It all begins at 7:30 on Thursday evening at the Gardner Community Center, with ‘A Taste of Things to Come’, where all the festival’s performers take a turn to showcase their particular talents.
On Friday and Saturday, there are free concerts and classes people can attend. There are also more specialized classes that have a small fee for focused amateurs or professional musicians to take.
On Friday at 2 pm at the community center in Cuchara, longtime festival favorite Ed Miller, along with fiddler Arlene Patterson will start the concerts off.
On Friday evening at 7:30 pm at the Fox Theatre in Walsenburg, is one of the main concerts, entitled ‘An Irish Fling’, starring David Coe, Aine Minogue,Roger Landes and Linda Hickman.
On Saturday afternoon, local favorites Kim McKee & Ken Willson perform at the 4H Club in La Veta at 1:30.
Saturday night’s concert at the Fox headlines with GiveWay, a quartet of sisters from Scotland- Fiona, Kirsty, Amy & Mairi. see related article “Music Notes” page 5.
On Sunday the highlight is a Burns ‘Supper’ and Concert at the 4H barn followed by ceilidh dancing and join-in session playing. Ed Miller, Heather Yule, Alison Bell, and the Girls Night Out will all be there!
