 Booking in Cuchara

CUCHARA- The Cuchara Bookmobile begins operations Memorial Day Monday, May 26, at the Cuchara Community Center from 11am to 2pm. A constantly changing variety of books– fiction, non-fiction, large print and children’s books as well as books on CD – will be available for checkout each Monday morning through August.

If you are not a La Veta Regional Library District patron, we can sign you up on-site and send you home with books.

The Cuchara Bookmobile is the brainchild of Bill Williams, who conceived the idea of bringing books to Cuchara’s summer residents and then spent every summer Monday morning over the past five years doing so.  Moving the incredibly popular Book Nook will keep Bill, the Book Nook manager, busy this summer so he has passed the baton to Colleen Gladney.  Colleen is approaching the Cuchara Bookmobile with her typical energy; she’ll be starting earlier in the summer and extending the hours of service.

Call the La Veta Public Library for more information: 742-3572.

Huerfano Ambulance celebrates EMS week

HUERFANO- May 18 – 24, 2008 has been dedicated as EMS week nationally and being celebrated throughout the country in many different ways.  Although it is small, Huerfano Ambulance will also be celebrating by recognizing its paid volunteer employees at a dinner on Saturday afternoon.  During the dinner several ‘awards’ will be given out to recognize several accomplishments during the past year.

Huerfano Ambulance is staffed by both local and distant employees that are on call for 12 – 24 hours a day.  Each employee receives a stipend for the on call time and then receives an hourly rate with any call that has patient contact.  Advance Life Support is staffed with three paramedics and four EMT Intermediates and Basic Life Support is staffed with 13 EMT Basics.  In addition there are five First Responders that will assist with backup should several emergencies drop at once or an ambulance goes out of town for a patient transport.  They also work closely with LaVeta and Gardner EMT’s as Huerfano Ambulance is the transporting agency for Huerfano County.

Take time this week to stop by or send a card to Huerfano Ambulance to thank the employees for all they do for Huerfano County.
