Capture the Wind at SPACe

LA VETA- Artists are invited to enter the coming show at the SPACe Gallery, "Capture the Wind".  All media will be accepted, with a size limit of 16"x20". Larger works may be considered.  Fees are $10 for the first entry and $5 for additional entries with a limit of 4 per artist.  Artwork should say something about the wind.  Bring artwork to the SPACe Gallery, 132 W. Tourism consultant

HUERFANO- Tourism Consultant Judy Walden will tour Cuchara, Gardner, La Veta and Walsenburg areas next Tuesday Mar. 3  to assess the potential for heritage tourism.

    At 5 pm that evening she will hold a  community meeting at the Huerfano County Community Center, Walsenburg, to discuss tourism.  All town and county officials as well as business persons and others interested are welcome.  A sandwich supper will be provided.  Sponsors are the Huerfano County Historical Society and the Huerfano County Tourism Board.

Water District

WALSENBURG- The Board of the Huerfano County Water Conservancy District will hold a special work session at 6 pm on Wed. Mar. 4, 2009 at City Hall, 525 South Albert Ave., Walsenburg.  The meeting is open to the public. 

Want game meat?

HUERFANO- Local Colorado Division of Wildlife authorities are seeking names of individuals to add to a donation list for wild game meat. Many times throughout the year these authorities come across situations in which wild game meat may be donated to local citizens in order for it not to go to waste.  If you would like to be added to this list in order to receive such donations, please contact Wildlife Officer Lance Gatlin at 719-989-1027.

Roundtable

WALSENBURG- The third in a series of business roundtables, Marketing in Difficult Times is scheduled for Thursday evening, March 19.  Dinner will be provided at 5:15 PM, before the presentation.  The Business Roundtable is organized by Huerfano County Business Retention & Expansion Partnership consisting of Huerfano County; Huerfano County Chamber of Commerce, La Veta Chamber of Commerce, CSU Extension and the Colorado Office of Economic Development & International Trade.

    All Huerfano County businesses are invited to attend this informative and timely meeting.  The rountable will be at the Walsenburg Golf Course.  A buffet dinner will be available at 5:15 and the program will conclude by 7:30 pm.

    With difficult times marketing is even more important.  The program will cover much including:  defining what marketing is and why it is important to know who your customer is and how to reach them; web based marketing; capitalizing on tourism; and resources that are available.  Many agencies and organizations will be at the meeting.

Grants for non-profits

LA VETA- The La Veta Youth Donors, previously known as the EPYCS program (El Pomar Youth and Community Service) is accepting applications from Non-Profit Organizations looking for grants.  To request an application contact Mrs. Pat Keeling at La Veta High School, 719-742-3662 ext. 48.  All applications must be received by April 1st.  Awards will be announced at the end of April.
