UHCD today

    The Board of Supervisors of the Upper Huerfano Conservation District will meet at 5:30 pm on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 711 Walsen Avenue, Suite A, Walsenburg.  The meeting is open to the public.

Tourism granting

WALSENBURG- The Huerfano County Tourism Board will meet at noon Fri. April 17, in the commissioners room in the courthouse.  The principal item of business will be the reviewing of grant applications.

Visualize Huerfano County

WALSENBURG- The first community workshop for the Huerfano County land use guide and comprehensive plan update will be held Friday, April 17 between 4-7 pm, and on Saturday April 18, 12-5 pm, to be at the Huerfano County Community Center.  For more information, contact John Galusha at 738-3485.

Native Plant Master Program

PUEBLO- Now is the perfect time to learn about native plant species. CSU Extension/Pueblo County is still accepting applications for the Native Plant Master program.  Courses are offered at various open space parks and public lands.  For course details including fees and locations contact 583-6566.

Andy Hackbarth international songwriting finalist

NASHVILLE- Award-winning Nashville songwriter and Classical/Flamenco guitarist Andy Hackbart  has been selected as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) out of over 15,000 applicants.  The winner will be notified by the end of the month, so local fans are asked to send a little luck his way.  Andy is the son of Sandy and Charlie Hackbarth of La Veta.

Earth Day/Recycle in Westcliffe

WESTCLIFFE–  Come celebrate Earth Day at Hermit Park in Westcliffe this Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 10 to 4, and recycle your unused electronics too.    

    Activities throughout the day will include : a barbecue, live music, a ceremonial sword dance, a drum circle, educational demonstrations, vendors booths, an auction and a bake sale.  Electronics Recycling will be from 1 to 5 where members of the public can bring their electronics such as TVs, printers, computers, and other electronic items to be recycled for a fee.

Water Enterprise meets Monday

WALSENBURG- The Water Enterprise of the Huerfano County Water Conservancy District will meet at 6 pm on Mon. April 20, 2009 at City Hall, 525 S Albert Avenue, Walsenburg.  The meeting is open to the public. 

Riverwalk Cleanup Day

The date has been changed to Friday April 24th

WALSENBURG- The date has been changed to Arbor Day! Come join your friends and neighbors and discover the hidden treasure that is the Cucharas River.  Learn about the plans to turn this overlooked and much forgotten wonder into Walsenburg’s showpiece!  Bring the whole family and enjoy nature talks, bug identification safaris, and see the plans for Walsenburg’s new park and trails complex.  And, best of all, get dirty as you reacquaint yourself with the forgotten beauty of the Cucharas River.  Put on your work clothes, bring your gloves and sun screen and join the fun starting at 9.  We will be cutting and removing Tamarisk and Russian Olive from the river near the Community Center and building the first link in the trail system.  We need to know how many people to feed so, please call Jim Conley at 738-2170 so we can get an approximate head count.  Hope to see you there!
