Body found near Aguilar determined as victim of homicide, I.D. released

AGUILAR — The Las Animas County Sheriff’s office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation have released the identity of a deceased man found two miles west of Aguilar last week, stating that the circumstances surrounding the death are suspicious and is being investigated as a homicide. The identity of the man, according to the Las Animas County Coroner, is 39-year old Burchard Mitchell of Trinidad according to a press release from the CBI.
Mitchell was found alongside County Road 43.7 just before 7 am on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.
The circumstances surrounding the homicide of Mitchell cannot be released at this time; however, investigators continue to make progress in the case.
  There has not been an arrest made in the investigation to date.
