Puppies being sold by the side of the road
I saw a man selling puppies on the side of the road this past weekend with neon signs posted – saying “Puppies for sale”. This screams “Puppy Mill at work”, and is 100% wrong!!Those who would buy a puppy from an anonymous person on the side of the road, not knowing anything about how and why those puppies are being bred, housed, fed or sold is not a good candidate for having a dog, and the person selling them doesn’t care at all about the dog’s welfare and what kind of person is buying them and for what purpose.
I am sure no questions are asked as to how that puppy will be cared for, if it will live on a chain outside all the time or if it will be the family pet, and given a good life.
To make a female dog have puppies for the sole purpose of making money on them is so cruel and heartless, only using the dogs to make a living.  Dogs are not a commodity to be sold as an object.
This is the operation of a puppy mill.
No license, no safeguards as to the dogs’ safety and future life, and this refers to the mother dog and her pups!
Also, the owner of the lot at which the person is selling the pups could be considered indirectly complicit in allowing that activity.  This is at the edge of town where the sheds are sold.
We all need to spay and neuter all dogs and cats and NOT allow breeding them for profit in this manner!
Please don’t allow it and speak up when you see it happening.

Dear Gretchen and Brian:
The Walsenburg Mining Museum Board and volunteers thank you and all the donors for your recent support given in the HGC fundraiser.
What a wonderful experience for the WMM and all  participating nonprofit organizations.  Such a community response is very encouraging as we plan for the new year.
Thanks also to Sarah Jardis and the staff for making the entire presentation  experience enjoyable.
Happy New Year and many thanks to the World Journal staff.
